  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program

    The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 are integrated skills programs to develop students’ academic communication and composition skills: writing and grammar; reading comprehension and proficiency; comprehension and oral fluency; intercultural communication. Students participate in a variety of complex academic activities and situations involving multiple purposes and participants.

  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program Admission Requirement

    First College admits applicants who meet one of the following admission criteria for each level:

    Notes: The EAP program acts as a pathway to Colleges and Universities, therefore high school diplomas are highly recommended.

    The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program - EAP100

    Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - Elementary (A2)

    1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 4 or equivalent.
    2. A minimum of 70% on the First College placement test prior to enrolling.

    The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP200

    Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - Pre-Intermediate (B1)

    1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 4.5 with no band less than 4 or equivalent.
    2. A minimum of 80% on the First College placement test prior to enrolling.
    3. Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP100 with a minimum grade of 70%.

    The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP300

    Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - Intermediate (B1+)

    1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 5.0 with minmuium 5.0 in writing or equivalent.
    2. Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP200 with a minimum grade of 70%.

    The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP400

    Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - Upper Intermediate (B2)

    1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 5.5 with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent.
    2. Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP300 with a minimum grade of 70%.

    The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP500

    Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) – Advanced (C1)

    1. International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent.
    2. Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP400 with a minimum grade of 70%.
  • Program Overview

    Completion of each course with a minimum grade of 70% is required. Students will receive an official transcript noting both grades and attendance at the end of session.
