English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program - 100, 200, 300, 400, 500
Faculty of Language
First College EAP (English for Academic Purposes) Program is for students who use English as a second or foreign language, and who wish to improve their English language skills to advance their education in Canada.
The program emphasizes speaking, listening, academic writing, reading comprehension, and college study skills. Students are placed in a level based on a free language diagnostic test.

Program Overview
Completion of each course with a minimum grade of 70% is required. Students will receive an official transcript noting both grades and attendance at the end of session.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program Admission Requirement
First College admits applicants who meet one of the following admission criteria for each level:
Notes: The EAP program acts as a pathway to Colleges and Universities, therefore high school diplomas are highly recommended.
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP100
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 4 with no band less than 3.5 or equivalent.
- Passing the First College placement test prior to enrolling.
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP200
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 4.5 with no band less than 4 or equivalent.
- Passing the First College placement test prior to enrolling.
- Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP100 with a minimum grade of 70%.
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP300
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 5.0 with minmuium 5.0 in writing or equivalent.
- Passing the First College placement test prior to enrolling.
- Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP200 with a minimum grade of 70%.
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP400
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 5.5 with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent.
- Passing the First College placement test prior to enrolling.
- Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP300 with a minimum grade of 70%.
The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program – EAP500
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic - test within the last two years: Overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent.
- Passing the First College placement test prior to enrolling.
- Completion of the First College English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program – EAP400 with a minimum grade of 70%.
